The idea that Arnold Friend may be the devil and that Connie may be dreaming evokes striking similarities between the coming-of-age stories “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” and “Young Goodman Brown.” Consider the similar presence of the devil and the dream in these stories and give examples of evidence where you see it in the texts. What common themes and meanings are revealed between the stories? Explain your interpretation.
