What did you discover about the infectious disease cycle that you did not know before?
Read and respond to your group mates’ posts -what did you have in common, what was different? How does this new information change your thinking about how children get sick?
Next, as a group, identify a point in the infectious disease cycle when the cycle could be interrupted to prevent infection or control the spread of disease.
And, as a group, propose a policy and related procedure designed to prevent or control the spread of disease in an early care and education setting.
Your final post will include the point in the cycle you have identified,
the policy statement and the procedure (developed in relation to that point of the cycle)

- Policy statements typically define the responsibilities of the program and or staff, a sample policy statement: ECE staff will keep parents and families informed about communicable diseases that may have been introduced into the ECE community.
- Procedures typically describe how the program staff will carry out the policy, a sample procedure statement: Children who become ill during the day and are suspected of having a communicable disease will be separated from the others in the classroom or center and placed under the supervision of one staff person. The child’s family will be contacted to pick them up as soon as possible.
