Discussion Assignment: Developing A Program Policy

Draft a program policy designed to support the safety of young children in group care. Your policy may address:

  • classroom rules,
  • guidelines for supervising children,
  • how to respond in an emergency situation,
  • fire/earthquake drill procedures,
  • field trip or mealtime policies designed to protect safety,
  • reporting/communication practices when children are injured or become ill while at school,
  • staff training requirements,
  • policies for storing and administering prescription medications at school.

Choose one topic to write a policy statement about, your policy should include the following components and must be posted to the discussion by Friday, 4/15

  1. Your statement will identify the subject of the policy or practice with a title.
  2. Next introduce the subject of the policy in a brief paragraph describing who it is for (teachers, all staff, administrators); who is expected to follow this policy?
  3. What are the rules, regulations or guidelines that staff are expected to follow? Describe the circumstances, forms or documents (if necessary), process or procedure required and the reason for the policy. [Who, What, When Where and Why]
