The article is a combination of descriptive and cross-sectional qualitative study which determined the relationship between maternal prenatal smoking and development of childhood overweight in school-age children. The researchers obtained data from the records of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (SECCYD) which gathered data from 10 research hospitals across the United States.
