With ease of access to the Internet at present, most people already have access to social media. The technology allows people to communicate, socialize and organize better. Social media also enables people to express themselves, showing the world the version of themselves that is otherwise constrained in their personal contexts or circumstances. In 1959, Erving Goffman published his influential book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. He postulates that the socialized self or that which is projected in public is like the front stage of a theatrical performance while the private self is akin to a back stage. This dichotomy between the front and the back stage is also present in social media.
