Downtown Los Angeles experienced a structural transformation since the 1980s. One poignant aspect of such is implementing the freeway system, especially the Harbor freeway. New and established structures gravitate toward the freeway—from north to south and east to west, redefining how the central city looked towards becoming the newest residential, financial, commercial, industrial, and entertainment district. Eventually, skyscrapers dominated the downtown skyline. Such a new structural organization—realized through the said freeway system—signaled a multi-focused yet rapid urbanization. Indeed, “the overall effect has been to improve the central district’s economic position” (Brodsly 17).
