Excerpt

“Samsara” is a narrative movie about our reality, but it is so much more onscreen. Samsara is a Sanskrit term that alludes to the life cycle of birth, death, and reincarnation. It doesn’t matter what Fricke does with his cameras or how long it takes for them to move. A close-up of a young African mother and her child might be more moving. I appreciated Samsara’s quiet visual narrative, the director’s newest attempt. Additionally, the phrase encompasses traveling in Buddhism and Hinduism. Filmmaker Ron Fricke and producer Mark Magidson’s non-narrative documentary is full of both interpretations. It was shot over five years in twenty-five countries on five continents, adheres to the same spiritual precepts. The filmmakers take us on a path toward a more profound understanding and appreciation of the human predicament, as well as wonder and respect for the beauty and majesty of the natural world. In addition, they help us deal with things like world pain, hunger, selfishness, aggression, desire, and a desire for war and wealth.
