Excerpt

Occupational stress has been normalized in today’s world because of the pressure to excel in one’s career. I have observed this to be true even among my colleagues and classmates. Everyone wants to be a step ahead, causing them to make sacrifices in their health to keep up with the demands. Others brag about not having sufficient sleep, for instance, as though it is good for the body. The mere fact that these conversations have become commonplace shows that people no longer recognize the dangers of occupational stress. In the textbook, occupational stress was shown to have an impact on people’s blood pressure and general mental health (Hales, 2021, p. 77). In other words, people constantly feel that they are on edge because they have to compete with their colleagues. The mental distress can certainly translate and turn into worse physical ailments for the individual, given that they feel no control over their situation.
