Specialization Interest Paper (20 points): Students will select a potential specialty area of practice, conduct a literature review on the evidence-based practice, and submit a paper summarizing the theory and practice of the specialty. This topic is to be the same as the interview topic, so as to build on your foundation of knowledge about this topic and prepare you for the interview. The paper should be 5-7 pages double-spaced, APA format (7th Edition), and include at least 5 references from peer-reviewed journals within the last 10 years.

Abstract

Increasing access to virtual PHP and IOP is one of the best specialties during the changing times. This type of specialty gives individuals more freedom and time to focus on individuals receiving therapy. The pandemic has changed how medical professionals and therapists’ function in the new normal. The virtual space has made it possible to connect professionals to individuals who are concerned about their safety going to a physical clinic. There are different advantages in providing these types of services as studies show that this can extend the availability of treatment for individuals who need counseling and is proven to be as effective as in-person therapy. Despite the success of virtual PHP and IOP, there are still barriers to making these types of consultation possible. Thus, continuous improvement and development are necessary to implement these types of services.
