Lab 7 Discussion
This week, we have learned about some of the adverse impacts climate change has on our human environments. Though this course explores the science behind climate change, we can’t discuss these human impacts without acknowledging the disproportionate effects experienced by some communities over others due to societal structures and choices made by governing agencies, corporations, and individuals. Climate change and social justice are deeply intertwined, and both must be examined when thinking about solutions for a more sustainable, equitable future.
- What communities are disproportionately impacted by climate change? Why are they so often overlooked?
- What is environmental justice?
- What might climate/environmental justice look like on a local scale (your neighborhood, or perhaps the greater L.A. area)?
- What might climate/environmental justice look like on a global scale?
- How can we be better advocates for environmental justice?
